Dog Birthday Fun at Pupvacay: Nicole’s First Sniffspot Visit

Nothing beats hearing that dogs enjoyed their visit to Pupvacay, especially when it was their family’s first Sniffspot experience!

Nicole recently brought her dogs to explore our private backyard in Oshawa. Since they were also celebrating a birthday, we added a colourful birthday sign at the entrance and prepared little loot bags for them to take home.

A Private Backyard Filled With Things to Explore

At Pupvacay, dogs have space to sniff, play and explore without sharing the yard with unfamiliar dogs. During their visit, Nicole’s dogs enjoyed the ball pit, toys, and enrichment activities throughout the backyard.

We also provide helpful extras such as dog bowls, toys, and water, so families can spend less time packing and more time enjoying their private visit.

Nicole’s Pupvacay Review

★★★★★

“This was my first time using Sniffspot and it did NOT disappoint! Not only does Catherine have a great sized backyard, but she really has everything you could need for your fur babies during their stay! They have dog bowls, towels, water, a bunch of balls/toys to choose from, and lots of enrichment activities within the backyard. She personalized it with a birthday sign at the entrance, as well as little ‘loot bags’ to take too. My dog absolutely loved every second of it! We will definitely be returning.”

Celebrating Your Dog’s Special Day

A dog’s birthday does not need to involve an enormous party or a crowd of unfamiliar dogs. A private backyard visit gives them room to run, investigate new smells, and enjoy activities at their own pace.

If you mention that your dog is celebrating a birthday when booking, I love adding a few personal touches to make the visit feel extra special.

Plan a Private Pupvacay Visit

Pupvacay is a private Sniffspot in Oshawa, Ontario, where dogs can enjoy off-leash time in a securely fenced backyard reserved just for them and the people they bring along.

Whether your dog needs room to burn off some energy, prefers not to visit busy public dog parks, or deserves a special birthday adventure, we would love to welcome you.

Why Dogs Love Pupvacay: A New Five-Star Review

Bingo and Ralph Put Pupvacay to the Test!

I haven’t done much to promote Pupvacay lately, but apparently the dogs have been handling the advertising for me. 🐾

Bingo and Ralph recently came to play at our private Sniffspot in Oshawa, and their family shared these wonderful photos along with a five-star review. Judging by the pictures, they took their testing duties very seriously!

Image: Bingo and Ralph Put Pupvacay to the Test!

“Best Sniffspot by far that I have been to!”

Their family said there was so much for the dogs to do, including two buckets filled with toys, the agility course, and the tug hanging from the tree. Their Border Collie especially loved the agility equipment, although both dogs appeared to have a very good time exploring everything.

They also appreciated the little extras we provide for our canine visitors and their people:

  • Plenty of fresh water
  • Two buckets filled with dog toys
  • Agility equipment
  • A tree tug for dogs who love to pull and play
  • Treats for the dogs
  • A small goodie bag to take home
  • Poop bags and a garbage bin for easy cleanup

I try to make Pupvacay more than an empty fenced yard. I want dogs to have things to sniff, explore, and play with while their people can relax knowing they have the space privately to themselves.

Reviews like this mean so much, especially when someone notices all those little touches. Pupvacay now has a 4.96 rating from 228 reviews, which feels rather amazing for something that began as a way to give dogs a safe and private place to enjoy themselves.

If your dog would enjoy a private outdoor adventure in the heart of Oshawa, you can visit the Pupvacay listing and reserve a time here.

Thank you to Jessica for the wonderful review, and to Bingo and Ralph for being such enthusiastic Pupvacay inspectors. They are welcome back anytime! 🐶

Why We’re Encouraging Guests to Book PupVacay Through Off-Leash

image: rent out my large backyard as a private, safe off-leash space where dog owners can relax, play, and let their dogs run free

Recently, someone asked why we’re encouraging guests to book PupVacay through the new Off-Leash Network instead of Sniffspot. Since we know many of our visitors are familiar with Sniffspot already, we thought we’d explain the difference!

First, we want to be clear: we’re still listed on Sniffspot, and we appreciate the platform for helping people discover private dog parks like ours. But we’re also excited to support a newer Canadian alternative that offers a few advantages for both hosts and guests.

The Biggest Difference? Pricing for Canadian Guests

Here’s the current pricing comparison for booking PupVacay:

Booking Through Sniffspot

  • $12 USD for the first dog
  • $6 USD for each additional dog

After currency conversion, that works out to approximately:

  • $16.58 CAD for the first dog
  • $8.29 CAD for each additional dog

Booking Through Off-Leash Network

  • $12 CAD for the first dog
  • $6 CAD for each additional dog

That means Canadian guests can save money simply by booking through a Canadian platform.

Why We Like Off-Leash

As a Canadian dog park host, we love supporting a platform built specifically for Canadian dog owners and hosts. We’re excited to see more local options become available in the private dog park space.

Some reasons we’re excited about Off-Leash:

  • Canadian pricing with no exchange rate surprises
  • Easier for Canadian guests
  • Supports a growing Canadian pet community
  • More affordable for multi-dog visits

We’re Still the Same PupVacay 🐾

No matter which platform you use, you’ll still get the same:

  • large private off-leash yard
  • safe fenced play space
  • enrichment features and toys
  • peaceful private bookings
  • happy, tired pups after playtime 😊

We simply wanted to let our community know why we’re encouraging bookings through Off-Leash whenever possible.

Thanks for supporting small businesses and local Canadian platforms!

Do Private Dog Parks Make Dogs Antisocial? Understanding Dog Socialization

Image: Image by Edyta Stawiarska from Pixabay

Do Private Dog Parks Make Dogs Antisocial?

One question comes up fairly often when people hear about private dog parks.

“If dogs only play in private spaces, won’t they become antisocial?”

It’s an understandable concern. Many of us were taught that dogs need to meet as many other dogs as possible in order to be well socialized.

But socialization isn’t just about the number of dogs a dog meets.

It’s about learning to feel calm and confident in different environments.

For some dogs, crowded public dog parks can be exciting and fun. For others, the constant arrivals, unfamiliar play styles, and unpredictable energy can be overwhelming.

A dog that feels overwhelmed may actually learn less about healthy social interaction, because they are too busy managing stress.

Private dog parks don’t prevent socialization. They simply allow owners to control when and how it happens.

Some dogs benefit from smaller playdates with dogs they know well. Others enjoy occasional public park visits combined with quieter spaces where they can run and relax.

Socialization isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Different dogs thrive in different environments.

Sometimes giving a dog space doesn’t make them antisocial.

Sometimes it helps them feel confident enough to engage with the world.

Who Benefits Most from Private Dog Parks?

Image: Who Benefits Most from Private Dog Parks?

Who Benefits Most from Private Dog Parks?

Private dog parks aren’t just for “problem dogs.”

They’re for dogs with different needs.

Here’s who tends to benefit the most from private, bookable spaces:

1. Reactive Dogs
Dogs who are fearful, anxious, or selective with other dogs often struggle in crowded public parks. A private space allows decompression, training, and safe exercise without unpredictable encounters.

2. Puppies in Training
Recall practice. Leash work. Exposure to new environments.
A private park gives young dogs room to learn without chaos.

3. Senior Dogs
Older dogs may not enjoy being bowled over by high-energy play. A quiet, private setting lets them move at their own pace.

4. Dogs Recovering from Injury
Controlled movement in a secure space can be invaluable when easing back into exercise.

5. High-Energy Breeds
Some dogs need to sprint. Not jog. Sprint.
A reserved space means full-speed zoomies without interruption.

6. Multi-Dog Households
Managing multiple dogs in a public setting can be stressful. A private park lets you focus on your own pack.

7. Owners Who Want Peace of Mind
No unknown vaccination status. No surprise behavior issues. No overcrowding.

Private dog parks aren’t about replacing public parks. They’re about expanding options.

Different dogs. Different needs. More choices.

Which category does your dog fall into?
